Speak English with an italian person once.
There are 3 possible dialogues.
The first: he doesn't know English.
The second and remote possibility is: he speaks with you (I swear it happens!)
The third: he understands something and trying to answer to you he says "Sorry..."
.....And he thinks:
- I don't speak English every day so I don't use it enough, what a pity!
- I studied English many years ago, what do you think I remember?
- ..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........mmmmmm...eeeeeee.....hello.....what can I say.....Help me!
- I'm old, what does he want?
- I'm Italian and you know that Italians don't speak English
All of them, if they could say these sentences, tell you the truth.
Italians have 2 main difficulties with English language: pronutiation and English language.
The first has no solution (i'm joking).
The second has a school solution.
Do you try to learn a language in the italian way? It's hard, really hard.
In the classroom they don't speak in English. The teacher speaks in English alone and many times doesn't claim pupils do the same.
The pronutiation is not teached.
Pupils study English poets but are not able to maintain a dialogue.
Foreigners have had too much patience, perhaps we need to change?
